In the spring of 1980 the Queen visited Leicestershire's County Hall buildings in Glenfield.
Many children from various schools boarded buses on a very wet morning and stood on the grass facing the balcony awaiting her majesty to make an appearance.
By the time of her majesty's appearance the grass frontage was quite a quagmire and everyone was truly soaked.
Here a newspaper photograph captures various Newbold Verdon Primary School pupils outside a Reliant bus.
Visible from left to right: Gillian Pape, Pip Pateman, John Spencer, Nathan Vesty, Andrew Finn with Steve Newman and Anita Roach behind him, Graham Preston, Andrea Wright, Nick Reed
Many thanks to Steve Newman for providing this photograph.
