The Mini-Bus Fund Raising Campaign April 1979

Hinckley Times Feature 13th April 1979

Over 1,000 people attended Newbold Verdon Primary School’s Spring Fayre, boosting their fund for a new mini-bus by £850. This brings the total amount so far raised to £2,000.

The fayre was one of a number of fund raising events held since last November at the school to collect money to buy the mini-bus.

Stalls selling plants, toys, hand-made crafts, groceries and refreshments were tremendously successful.

The bus will be used for transporting the children in the school to the various places of interest in the locality.

The school are already looking round for a suitable vehicle.

The School's 75th Anniversary 1985

Newbold Verdon Primary School
Leicester Mercury News Report On The School's 75th Anniversary In 1985

Seventy-five years of school history were commemorated at Newbold Verdon with an exhibition and evening of entertainment.

Staff and pupils of the primary school managed to trace people who had been connected with the school since its opening day in April 1910. Their memories and mementos featured in the week long exhibition which attracted hundreds of visitors.

The anniversary celebrations proved to be a great success, said Headmaster Mr Malcolm Mould, and many asked that it be made a regular village attraction.

The final event of the week was an Old Tyme Music Hall on Monday night which played to a packed house with some in appropriate period costumes.

Items in the show, which was staged by members of the school staff and local community, included comedy sketches, a monologue, magic show and a Victorian melodrama.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Mr John Gates of The Verdon Players Drama Group.
And to round off the anniversary, a special baked cake was cut with each pupil at the school receiving a piece.

Commented Mr Mould: “The whole thing has been a marvellous success, it has been worth every minute of the hard work involved in putting it all together”.

Top picture: Authentic school furniture and a dreaded cane featured in the exhibition and re-living a scene of the past are Headmaster Mr Malcolm Mould, his “victim” Richard Hughes (11), Judith Nix, Ruth Veal, Simon Bates, Linda Austin, Jackie Dexter and Averil Woolerton.
